NKURENKURU, 12 DEC (NAMPA) - The Namibian Police Force in the Kavango West Region launched its festive season operation on road safety campaign under the code name “Rain Bowl” in Nkurenkuru on Thursday.
The campaign, which commenced on 12 December 2024, will run until 17 January 2025, focusing on loads on vehicles, execution of warrant of arrest, and roadworthiness of motor vehicles among others.
Kavango West Police Regional Commander Commissioner, Julia Sakuwa-Neo, said the aim of the festive season operation is to enhance road safety measures and operational readiness during the busy festive period, which is often marked by increased travel and road incidents.
Sakuwa-Neo commended all stakeholders for their continued commitment to ensuring road safety, saying the festive season is a time of celebration and unity, but it is also a period when road safety becomes critically important.
“Our primary objective is to safeguard lives and ensure compliance with road regulations,” she said.
Sakuwa-Neo urged all road users to always adhere to the provisions of road traffic, not only when they see a traffic checkpoint or traffic patrol vehicles on the highway but as a standard throughout their lifetime.
During the launch, the Governor of Kavango West Region, Sirkka Ausiku said that it is only through collaboration between the government, law enforcement agencies, and the public that can ensure a safe and enjoyable season for all.
Ausiku emphasised that it is evident that with the upcoming festive season, the national roads still remain darkened by the occurrence of tragic road accidents that tend to increase during this period, but it’s a call for critical thinking and demands higher levels of vigilance from drivers as well as pedestrians.
“Our collective hope is that this campaign will reach and have an impact on a number of road users and educate them on road safety as well as other benefits offered by different stakeholders during the execution of this important undertaking”, said Ausiku
The governor urged residents of Kavango West region to be patient, drive safely and obey the rules of the road as it is in the best interest of all road users and to refrain from committing crimes.
