NKURENKURU, 26 NOV (NAMPA) - Kavango West Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo, has called on business owners to comply with the law and keep their businesses closed on election day, which has been declared a public holiday.
Sakuwa-Neo in an interview with Nampa reminded local business owners that election day (27 November) was declared a public holiday by President Nangolo Mbumba.
“My appeal is to business owners to respect the day and allow their employees to go and exercise their right to vote,” she said.
The commander emphasised that keeping businesses like shebeens and bars closed would also reduce the likelihood of disturbances at polling stations.
“This will help prevent people from consuming alcohol and causing disruptions in the voting queues,” she noted.
Sakuwa-Neo further reminded the public to maintain appropriate behaviour at polling stations, while stressing that police officers are prepared to manage the voting lines to prevent any disorder, including issues like people skipping queues.
“It is the duty of police officers to ensure everything runs smoothly,” she added.
Sakuwa-Neo also called on voters to show up early to avoid having to queue until late.
