WINDHOEK, 07 OCT (NAMPA) – Over 25 000 Namibians’ study funding applications were rejected between 2021 and 2023, statistics from the Namibia Investment Promotion Development Board (NIPDP) have revealed.
This is according to NIPDB Acting Chief Operations Officer, Johan Steenkamp, who said that in 2023 alone, 30 000 applications for study funding were recorded in Namibia.
Steenkamp made these remarks during the official launch of the NIPDB Information Sharing Platform here on Monday.
The platform (studyopportunities.nipdb.com) was developed to serve as a centralised source of information about bursaries, scholarships and other funding opportunities for Namibian youth.
“This initiative aims to bridge the gap in access to this vital information and to ensure that the country develops the necessary skills required by investors and aligned to new and emerging sectors,” Steenkamp noted.
According to Steenkamp, many Namibians are uninformed about available opportunities due to various factors, including geographical and technological factors. The NIPDB, he noted, will therefore collate data from government ministries and public and private sector programmes to assist in this regard.
The platform’s objectives also include fostering collaboration with existing platforms like Namibian Opportunities to enhance access to scholarships, bursaries and internship opportunities.
