Hong Kong's first post-colonial chief executive Tung Chee-hwa, who has died aged 89, was a staunch conservative entrusted by Beijing with leading the city's transition from British rule. Tung, a Shanghai-born billionaire who inherited his family's shipping empire, led Hong Kong from the 1997 handover to 2005, when he resigned in the wake of large protests.
