Former world champion Julian Alaphilippe confirmed on Friday he had retired from cycling after media reports earlier in the day sparked tributes from across the sport for the Frenchman. The 34-year-old, who claimed the rainbow jersey in 2020 and 2021, had a contract with his Tudor team until 2027.
