Commerzbank profit nearly doubles as UniCredit takeover bid heats up

Frankfurt (dpa) - Commerzbank almost doubled its second-quarter net profit and said the stronger earnings performance would form the basis for talks with its largest shareholder, Italy's UniCredit, as the takeover battle over the German lender intensifies. Net profit rose to ?898 million ($1.04 billion) in the April-June period from ?462 million a year earlier, when earnings were weighed down by restructuring costs related to thousands of job cut......
