Iceland has "nothing to lose" by negotiating with the European Union over membership, the French foreign minister said Monday, as the island prepares for a referendum on restarting stalled talks on joining the bloc. Icelanders will vote on August 29 on whether to resume membership talks, which began in 2010 but were suspended three years later.
