Italy's Banco BPM said on Sunday it would invite Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena to discuss a potential "merger of equals" that would create the country's second-biggest banking group. BPM proposes the "creation of a new national champion, the second largest domestic banking operator", it said in a statement, without providing specific details on deal structure. The combined company would be worth "more than EUR50 billion" ($58 billion), it said.......
