Oruharui expo concludes with crowning of best livestock

ORUHARUI, 01 JUN (NAMPA) – The seventh edition of the Oruharui SME Agricultural Expo 2026 concluded on Sunday with the crowning of outstanding livestock producers in the prestigious competition, which brought together farmers from across the Otjozondjupa Region.
The event provided a platform for farmers, exhibitors and agricultural stakeholders to showcase quality livestock, exchange knowledge and promote agricultural development in the area.
Winners received trophies, feed prizes sponsored by Feedmaster, and other awards. Standard Bank was the main sponsor of the event.
Oruharui SME Agricultural Expo organiser Florence Handura told Nampa on Monday that the expo achieved its objectives of improving livestock production and supporting small businesses.
“The event was successful as we managed to educate farmers on how to produce animals with better quality traits. We also had four food stalls, which created a great opportunity for small businesses to generate income,” Handura said.
She further said the expo continues to play an important role in improving livestock quality and encouraging farmers to adopt better breeding practices, noting that the competition helps farmers benchmark their animals against others in the region.
This year’s champion of champions results saw Abia Novengi crowned champion bull with a Brahman bull named Presise, while Asser Mbapeua Uanekee claimed the champion cow title with a Simbra cow named Sylvia.
Strong competition was also recorded in the small stock categories. Uamburu Mbetjiha’s entry was named champion sheep ram, while Alfons Amakalie secured the champion sheep ewe title.
In the goat categories, Mbarimuo Mutjavikua was named champion goat ram with a Boerbok entry, while Alfons Amakalie also claimed the champion goat ewe award, further dominating the small stock category.
The best horse drill award went to Muhereri Katjinamunene, who impressed judges with excellent horsemanship and livestock handling skills.
Handura said the expo was hosted at its own dedicated venue for the first time, describing it as a major milestone for the event’s future growth.
She said organisers aim to attract more stakeholders, strengthen partnerships, improve livestock quality, and expand SME participation to boost agricultural development in the region.
