A clear majority of voters in North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany's most populous state, have voted in favour of hosting the Summer Olympics in either 2036, 2040 or 2044. Around 1.4 million of the four million eligible voters cast their ballots in the referendum held across 17 municipalities in North-Rhine Westphalia.
