Nujoma calls for shared vision to boost Khomas Region growth

WINDHOEK, 25 MAR (NAMPA) - Khomas Governor, Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma, on Wednesday urged regional and local authority leaders to strengthen coordination and commit to a shared vision as the region finalises its draft Integrated Regional Development Plan (IRDP) and Governance Strategic Plan.
Speaking at a stakeholder consultation at the Namibia Institute of Public Administration and Management (NIPAM) in Windhoek, Nujoma noted that the plans are designed to accelerate implementation of the Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6) by reducing bureaucratic delays and aligning regional structures behind common development priorities.
The governor said Khomas is the first region to produce such an integrated plan, describing the effort as a collective responsibility towards the aspirations of our citizens.
He explained that the IRDP translates national objectives into the regional context, while his office’s strategic plan introduces new accountability platforms, including an annual Regional and Local Authority Forum and a stakeholder inclusive monitoring and evaluation conference.
“A people united, striving to achieve a common good for all members of society, will always emerge victorious. Let this timeless truth inspire us to work hand in hand, across institutions and mandates, for the prosperity of our region and the nation at large,” said Nujoma, adding that leaders should rally under the mantra “My Khomas, My Region, My Pride.”
Also speaking at the gathering was Khomas Chief Regional Officer Clement Mafwila, who underscored the importance of operational efficiency and a high performance culture across public institutions. He reminded stakeholders that effective programme delivery, governance improvements and better procurement practices are crucial to achieving development targets.
Mafwila said all regional entities must align their strategic plans with the IRDP, noting that citizens expect visible results. He urged the participants to propose solutions and not merely point fingers and criticise each other as the draft documents are still under review.
“We must collaborate to change the lives of our people for the better. The mandate has been given to us, and results are expected,” said Mafwila.
