German police give details on shooting of 12-year-old girl

Essen, Germany (dpa) - A 12-year-old deaf girl who was shot by German police on Monday was hit by a single bullet to the stomach, according to police investigating the incident in the western German city of Bochum. A police spokesman said that the girl was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and underwent surgery. Her condition remains "critical but stable," the spokesman said on Tuesday.
