South Africa's 400 metre world record holder Wayde van Niekerk said Wednesday he was grateful just to be competing at the World Athletics Championships after serious injury derailed his career. The 33-year-old enjoyed a stunning run of success in the 2010s, winning the 400m world title in 2015 before claiming Olympic gold in a world record-breaking time in Rio a year later.
