Canada's Evan Dunfee won the opening gold on offer at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on Saturday, a late surge ensuring him victory in the 35km race walk. Dunfee, the quickest man in the field, clocked 2hr 28min 22sec around the streets of the Japanese capital in sultry conditions.
