Finland's parliament on Wednesday approved the extension of a temporary law allowing border guards to turn away asylum seekers under certain circumstances, aimed at preventing Russia from using what Helsinki calls "instrumentalised migration". The Nordic country shut its 1,340-kilometre (830-mile) eastern border with Russia in mid-December 2023 after the arrival of around 1,000 migrants without visas.
