NKURENKURU, 10 MAY (NAMPA) – One person died when a car carrying seven occupants hit cattle in the road at Mile 20 in the Kavango West Region on Friday.
According to the Regional Commander, Commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo, the incident happened between 19h00 and 20h00.
“Magreth Wayera Muha, aged 53, died. The other occupants were rushed to Rundu State Hospital,” said Sakuwa-Neo.
The deceased’s next of kin have been informed.
The other occupants, driver Willem Sindimba (53), Mathias Hausiku (36), Sakaria Kampanza (21), Sylvia Muha (21), Victoria Nekero (29) and Nathanell Kandjimi (1), all sustained slight injuries.
It is alleged that Sindimba lost control over the vehicle after hitting the cattle, swerved off the road, avoided a nearby electrical pole but crashed into a fallen tree on the opposite side of the road.
Sakuwa-Neo appealed to cattle owners to refrain from letting their livestock roam freely.
“Lives are lost due to their acts,” she stressed.
