NKURENKURU, 17 APR (NAMPA) - Two people are in a stable condition after being rescued from a burning room in the Kavango West Region on Wednesday.
Regional Police Chief Inspector, Raimbert Muronga, said the fire incident occurred around 07h00 at the Matende village of the Kapako Constituency.
The survivors are Mbundu Elina Mukunga, 100, who sustained serious burn wounds all over her body, and two-year-old Mukuve Aurelia Makena, who was also seriously burned when the bedroom they were sleeping in caught fire.
They are receiving treatment at the Mupini health centre.
Muronga further said the victims were rescued by family members after they observed a strong smell of smoke coming from the room.
He noted that preliminary investigations show the fire might have been caused by an electrical short circuit and high voltage from the main electricity box.
Police investigations continue.
