WINDHOEK, 20 MAR (NAMPA) - Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila was elected Speaker of the eighth National Assembly on Thursday after securing 55 votes.
Bernadus Swartbooi, leader of the Landless People’s Movement, received 40 votes from Members of Parliament.
Phillipus Katamelo was elected Deputy Speaker after contesting against McHenry Venaani, leader of the Popular Democratic Movement. Katamelo garnered 54 votes, while Venaani received 41.
