WINDHOEK, 18 MAR (NAMPA) - The Namibian Competition Commission (NaCC) and the Law Society of Namibia (LSN) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of agreement aimed at developing collaborative activities and promoting fair competition, transparency and strengthening legal frameworks.
Signing on behalf of the NaCC, its Chief Executive Officer, Vitalis Ndalikokule said the two institutions will further promote applied research in the development of the law and participate in the reform of law by the government and other regulatory agencies.
He said: “As part of its objectives, the LSN cooperates with the representative bodies of other professional bodies to further the development of law as an instrument of social engineering and social justice. It is also the commission's ultimate goal to effectively and efficiently enforce the competition law for the betterment of our country and its citizens.”
LSN is one of the regulatory institutions that have been instrumental in collaborating with the commission in the review of the Competition Act. The amendments to the Act are currently under review with the relevant Government institutions, Ndalikokule added.
The agreement also provides for cooperation on training and information sharing and broadening the regulatory functions of the two institutions.
On her part, LSN Director Nelisiwa Tjahikika said they are looking forward to working with the commission.
It is not just about the signing of the MoU, but more about creating a framework that will enable the two sister institutions to work together, guided by the terms of the MoU, she said.
“We are looking forward to the journey ahead with the NaCC, which we believe incorporates very important aspects which on our own we will not be able to do. Hence, it becomes important that we must collaborate and work together with institutions to tackle national issues,” Tjahikika said.
