OMATANDO, 17 MAR (NAMPA) – Hundreds of mourners attended the funeral service of a Northern Regional Electricity Distributor (Nored) employee who lost his life when he was electrocuted in an accident while on duty at Yinsu village in Kavango West.
Abel Ashiyana Kayembo died at the age of 36 on 10 March 2025. He was buried on Sunday at Ndjoba cemetery in Ongwediva.
Hundreds of mourners and sympathisers thronged his house at Omatando village on Saturday and Sunday for the memorial service and funeral. Those who spoke during his funeral described him as a family man, a friend to all, a brother and father to all, who emotionally, financially and materially assisted many.
Omatando village headman, Julius Mulongeni said Kayembo was a people’s person and a hardworking man whose presence was always felt when he visited his home village.
“He would not pass by without greeting you. He would always smile before saying something, and I am sure everyone here can testify to that.
“My boy will always visit my house and ask if there is anything I need, and even if you tell him ‘nothing’, he will make sure he gives you anything especially animal feed,” Mulongeni remembered.
Kleopas Shitaleni also described his best friend as a friendly person, a mentor, a hero to many, an inspiration and a hardworking man.
“I have lost a brother, I lost a big part of my heart, my heart is shattered; we have so many memories together. We started as friends, later we became family. I am heartbroken,” he said.
Nored employees remembered Kayembo as a person with a sense of humour and as a quiet and hardworking man.
“He was one of our best and most well-disciplined employees. His wisdom, generosity, loyalty and the way he made everyone feel valued and respected will be remembered. His legacy lives on and his absence will be felt by many,” the Nored employees’ remarks read.
Kayembo is survived by four children and seven siblings.
