Nujoma had a significant impact on Namibians' lives: Ausiku

NKURENKURU, 11 FEB (NAMPA) – Kavango West Governor Sirkka Ausiku has hailed Founding President Sam Nujoma as a passionate freedom fighter who led Namibia to independence from apartheid South Africa.
Nujoma died at the age of 95 on Saturday.
Ausiku in an interview with Nampa on Monday also characterised the founding president as a unifier and an iconic figure of the liberation struggle.
She emphasised the significant impact Nujoma had on improving the lives of Namibians, especially in rural areas, through various initiatives designed to ensure inclusivity.
The governor said the founding president dedicated his entire life to the liberation struggle and nation building, and his visionary leadership and sacrifices laid the foundation for the Namibian nation.
“As we mourn this great loss, we also celebrate the extraordinary life of a leader who selflessly devoted himself to the cause of Namibia,” she said.
Ausiku urged Namibians to honour the founding father by upholding the values he stood for, including patriotism, resilience, unity of purpose and nation building.
“On behalf of the people of the Kavango West Region and on my own behalf, I extend our deepest condolences to the Nujoma family and the entire Namibian nation during this difficult time,” said Ausiku.
Nujoma served as the first president of Namibia for 15 years from 1990.
