NKURENKURU, 22 JAN (NAMPA) - The Namibian Police Force has reported another car accident on the D3407 gravel road at Silikunga village, where a man lost his life on Monday.
Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga told Nampa another accident on the D3407 gravel road around 20h30 on Tuesday involved two members of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF).
He said the two NDF members were driving from Grootfontein to the Nepara Army Base when the driver lost control over the vehicle due to the wet road surface, and it overturned.
“The vehicle was severely damaged but both occupants had only slight injuries. Both the driver and the passenger are in stable condition,” Muronga said.
In the accident on Monday, a 36-year-old male nurse identified as Karufere Gideon Hausiku died on the spot and four others sustained slight to serious injuries when the vehicle they were travelling in overturned on the same road.
Kavango West Police Regional Commander, Commissioner, Julia Sakuwa-Neo, said the accident occurred between 17h00 and 18h00 and all occupants of the Toyota Land Cruiser were on duty at the time of the accident.
It is alleged that the driver of the vehicle, headed from Mpungu to Silikunga village on the D3407 gravel road, lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid crashing into two donkeys.
“The donkeys appeared to be moving towards the road and the driver did not know they were tied to a tree. As a result, he lost control of the vehicle and it overturned. One passenger died on the scene,” she said.
Hausiku was a nurse at the Nankudu hospital. His next of kin have been informed.
