WINDHOEK, 16 JAN (NAMPA) - The Katutura Magistrate’s Court has granted bail in the amount of N.dollars 5 000 to the 66-year-old man who was arrested after he allegedly made a bomb threat at the Hosea Kutako International Airport.
The 66-year-old Christo Bessinger is accused of having uttered the words “There could be a bomb on the aircraft for all we know.”
He was a passenger on a flight departing for Cape Town, South Africa on Tuesday.
The comment prompted a swift response from the Namibia Airports Company (NAC) and Namibian Police Force bomb squad, which investigated the situation.
NAC spokesperson Dan Kamati said following swift action by stakeholders, the flight was cleared and the airport was reopened for normal operations.
Bessinger will return to court on 11 March 2025. He has been charged with contravening the Civil Aviation Act 6 of 2016.
