WINDHOEK, 22 NOV (NAMPA) - The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) will deploy 4 677 police officers to polling stations countrywide on election day, covering all 121 constituencies.
This was announced by NamPol Deputy Inspector General, Elias Mutota, at a press conference in Windhoek on Friday, where he outlined NamPol’s collaboration with the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) to secure a smooth election process.
Mutota said each region will also station officers on routine patrols, with additional teams on standby for any investigative needs.
“NamPol has established a National Joint Operations Centre, complemented by the Regional Operations Centres, to coordinate and support the election activities in all 14 regions. Transportation and storage of all election materials has been done with a police escort and monitoring,” he said.
Police officers also received extensive training and preparation to handle the security needs and challenges associated with the elections.
“The deployed officers are well aware of the police functions and are inducted and prepared to handle any challenges that may be encountered,” Mutota added.
He also reminded the public to refrain from carrying firearms or dangerous weapons when going out to vote and called for patience, cooperation with election officials, and respect for security personnel at all times.
