NKURENKURU, 21 NOV (NAMPA) - The police in the Kavango West Region arrested a 57-year-old driver after he allegedly struck a pedestrian who died on the spot on Wednesday.
According to the Namibian Police Force’s Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga, the accident occurred around 21h30 at Nkurenkuru, on the B10 road.
It is alleged that the driver of a Ranger pick-up was driving from Nkurenkuru in a western direction when he struck the pedestrian who was crossing the road.
The deceased was identified as Kativa Hawina Ndara, believed to be in his 30s. The driver is expected to appear in court at Kahenge this week on charges of culpable homicide.
In another accident, a 42-year-old man allegedly collapsed and died at Nkwizu village in Tondoro Constituency, also in the Kavango West Region.
Muronga said the incident occurred around 06h00 on Wednesday.
The deceased was a resident of Nandeu village.
It is alleged that the man had been ill and was scheduled for a follow-up doctor’s appointment on 21 November 2024, according to his health passport.
His identity is known to the police but could not be released as his next of kin were yet to be informed.
The body was transported to the Nkurenkuru police mortuary for an autopsy.
