NKURENKURU, 11 NOV (NAMPA) - Swapo Party presidential candidate, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has urged supporters not to be misled by opposition parties.
Nandi-Ndaitwah made the appeal while addressing Swapo supporters and sympathisers at the party’s star rally in Nkurenkuru on Sunday.
“During the past 34 years, the party has seen significant progress, so why is it that some people do not recognise this?” she questioned. “The government has tried and is still trying to ensure that services are brought closer to the people. Our detractors are trying to influence our psychology, saying that nothing has been achieved in this country since independence. The party and the government are aware that all is not well but at least you are seeing improvement, so don’t be misled by them,” she said.
Nandi-Ndaitwah also acknowledged Namibia’s unemployment challenges, particularly among the youth. She said the government has established infrastructure and programmes to address issues like unemployment, noting that since independence, there has been substantial investment in education.
“We did this to empower our people and prepare them for the work ahead,” she stated.
She also touched on the party’s manifesto, saying that it is designed to lift Namibians out of poverty and that to achieve it, the government has allocated N.dollars 500 million annually towards the production of high-nutrition products to combat hunger and malnutrition, address food security and create jobs.
Nandi-Ndaitwah urged people to place their trust and confidence in the SWAPO Party to ensure the continuation of its developmental agenda.
Also speaking at the event, Swapo Coordinator for the Kavango West Region, Elina Magano Diparo, assured the presidential candidate that the region stands firmly behind the party and will not be easily swayed by opposition parties. She added that since the challenging election of 1989, which led to independence, Swapo has received strong support from the people in the Kavango Region.
During the rally, the party also welcomed 57 new members from opposition parties such as the Independent Patriots for Change, Republican Party and Popular Democratic Movement.
