AFP presents a reportage of 34 photos by AFP photographer Marco Longari taken on April 9, 2026 showing Israeli woman Sarah Bird delivering her third baby at the operating theatre of the neonatal unit in the underground bomb shelter built into the Carmel Medical Center in the northern city of Haifa. The hospital, built in the tip of the one of the mountains of the Carmel Mountain Range is part of the Clalit Health Services, the largest health organisation in Israel running 14 hospitals across the country. At least 14 rocket alerts sounded through April 9 morning in communities near Israel's northern border with Lebanon as Israeli forces fight Hezbollah despite the US-Iran ceasefire.
