An aerial photograph shows rice being harvested mechanically in a polder in Oude Ade, the Netherlands, on September 29, 2026. According to researchers, rice cultivation could offer a solution to soil subsidence caused by the drying-out of the Dutch peat landscape. In the "Polderlab" project, groundwater levels are being raised to halt the drying-out of the peat and the resulting CO2 emissions.
