An election campaign poster of Prime Minister Viktor Orbans's Fidesz party and candidate Csuzda Gabor is pictured in the village of Bodvalenke, north-eastern Hungary, near the Hungarian-Slovak border on April 2, 2026, ahead of the country's national elections. Since 2010, the Hungarian Reformed Church Aid charity has been the main sponsor of the project 'Bodvalenke – Fresco Village': Houses in the village were painted with frescos by Roma artists from all over Hungary. The aim was to pull the village, which is mostly inhabited by Roma, out of its isolation and poverty, reduce prejudices, develop infrastructure and to turn Bodvalenke into a tourist destination. The village, a three-hour drive away from the capital Budapest, is located in one of Hungary's poorest regions. Its inhabitants pursue social work in the community or work in tourist resorts. The village has an independent mayor, yet most of the villagers show support of Prime Minister Orban's Fidesz party. The Roma are Hungary's largest minority, making up around seven percent of the 9.5 million population and often face discrimination. (Photo by FERENC ISZA / AFP)
