SWA IDs phase out deadline extended

WINDHOEK, 28 MAR (NAMPA) - The deadline for the phasing out of the old South West Africa (SWA) identification cards (IDs) has been extended to 31 March 2018.
The first deadline for the replacement of the documents issued during South Africa’s apartheid rule over Namibia, commenced on 31 March 2016 and was to lapse on Friday.
The campaign was introduced for Namibia to adapt to international practices of using one legal identity card within a national territory.
